Anna (Stefanova) Kostrej

Anna Kostrej, of Munhall, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her loving family on November 26, 2024, at the age of 96.

Daughter of the late Pavel Stefan and Alzbeta (Jakubova) Stefanova; Beloved wife of her first husband late Jan Gorej (Slovakia) & second husband late John Kostrej (USA); Loving mother of Emilia Ondova, Helena Marinakova and Magdalene (Michael G.) Semego; Sister of the late Alzbeta Minova and late Jan Stefan; Grandmother to Marian Ondo, Marek Ondo, Ivetka Ondova, Slavka Filkova, Alenka Filkova, Melissa (Jacob) Cherevka & Jessica Semego; Great-Grandmother to Anthony and Mariah Cherevka; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Anna was born in Porostov, Czechoslovakia (Slovak Republic) on February 17, 1928 and remained proud of her Slovakian heritage. She was an active member of St. Therese Church (currently known as St. Thomas the Apostle Parish) in Munhall, PA. Anna loved her church and attended Mass every Sunday as well as every morning during the week. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring daughter. Anna’s interests included knitting, crocheting, vegetable gardening, planting flowers, cooking, baking and facetiming with her two daughters and friends in Slovakia. She was an incredible cook who was well known for her delicious pierogies, stuffed cabbage, nut rolls, mushroom soup and haluski in addition to other Slovakian foods. Sharing meals with loved ones and close neighbors is something that she enjoyed.

Anna had a heart made of gold that was full of generosity and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her family especially her daughter Maggie and son-in-law Michael who took great care of her in their home for seven years up to her passing. Anna was a blessing to anyone who met her and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home (828 Richford Street Duquesne, PA 15110). Following the funeral service, Anna will be laid to rest at Saint Marks Cemetary in McKees Rocks, PA. In addition, a private funeral luncheon wake will be held by her family to celebrate Anna’s life.
