Daniel Evans Obituary

Daniel J. Evans (Pap Dan), 74, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, October

26, 2024, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born on June 30, 1950, in

Braddock, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John and Helen (Mihalov) Evans.

Dan was a faithful member of SS Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church,

Duquesne, where he followed in the footsteps of his father and served as a

Cantor his entire adult life. He graduated with a bachelor’s from Duquesne

University where he met his wife, Susanne (Gillam) and quickly started his

family. He then worked his entire career for U.S. Steel Corporation, over 35

yrs, starting in the mills and working his way to Director of IT and

Infrastructure. In retirement he enjoyed golfing with friends, his support

groups, serving his church, time with family, and watching the Pirates,

Steelers, and Penguins. Pap Dan will be remembered among other things as

a lover of buying Christmas presents, thrilled with finding a bargain, as a

loyal friend, a dedicated father and grandfather, a committed volunteer and

respecter of a good prank. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death

by his long-time partner Elaine M. Baker. He is survived by his three children,

Jennifer M. Magee (Shawn), Gregory D. Evans (Sarah), and Nicholas J. Evans;

his beloved grandchildren Emma-Kate Magee, Anna Magee, and Theodore

Evans; his two sisters, Pamela A. Donkin (Wayne) and Patricia M. Weidman

(Dennis), plus nieces and nephews and great niece and nephew.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, November 1,

2024, in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc. Richford and

Commonwealth Avenue, Duquesne. A blessing in the Memorial Home on

Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 9:15 will be followed by Liturgy of Christian

Burial at 10:00 in SS Peter & Paul Church with Fr. Christiaan Kappes celebrant. The family suggests Memorial
