Eugene ("Gene") L. Valentovish of Duquesne, PA passed away quietly on August 14th with his loving family by his side. Born on June 9, 1928 in Mount Pleasant, PA he greatly enjoyed his 86 years. He was married to his wife and best friend, Mary Ann Voyten Valentovish for 59 years, and together they raised and dedicated their lives to their five children. Gene lived life to the fullest. He loved his family and his church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Glory (Alan) Koerbel, Kathleen (Gerald) Potter, Kristin (Thomas) Legin, Lisa, and Gregg (Shelly Seanor) Valentovish. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren: Jordan Potter, Ashley and Joseph Legin, Allison Koerbel, and Breana, Bayden and Bryson Valentovish.
Gene was employed at General Motors Fisher Body Division for forty years as a Production Control Coordinator. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Spokane CL120. Gene enjoyed people and working with them in organizations. He proudly served as Grand Knight of Duquesne-West Mifflin Knights of Columbus Council 4210. He was a member of Christ the Light of the World Church, the Parish Council for 40 years, and the church's men's club. He also belonged to the Duquesne Annex Senior Citizens Club, K of C Senior Citizens and the General Motors Salaried Retirement Club.
An avid gardener once affiliated with the Gardeners Club of Western Pennsylvania, he spent many years beautifying the grounds of Holy Name Church. He enjoyed working with children and was an advisor for the Mon-Yough Junior Achievement Program, Scout Master for Troop 310, Holy Name Church CCD Instructor and lector. He was a baritone in the men's choir and performed with the Knights of Song.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Leon and Hattie Valentovish, his in-laws, Mary and Frank Voyten, sister, Florence Guzy and brother Edward Valentovish. Surviving are sisters Hattie Sukenik and Bernadine Czekaj, brothers in-law Frank (Janet) Voyten and Charles (Stephanie) Voyten, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, 828 Richford Street at Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne on Sunday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Monday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church with Rev. Dennis Colamarino, celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ the Light of the World 'Feed the Needy' Fund would be greatly appreciated.
