John M. Fatula

John M. Fatula, 74, of McKees Rocks, PA, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on March 27, 2017. Preceding him in death were his devoted father, Michael Nicholas Fatula, and his cherished sister and brother, Rita Barbara and James E. Fatula. He is the beloved son of Rita Hyzy Fatula of Braddock, PA, and treasured brother of Sr. Mary Ann Fatula, O.P., of Columbus, Ohio; William (Mary Jean) Fatula, and Michael A. (Barbara, d.) Fatula of Pittsburgh; Rita (Don) Moldovan of Indian Trail, NC; and David (Faustyna) Fatula of Steubenville, Oh. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. John was the Lord’s precious gift to us. He was deeply committed to his Byzantine Catholic and Carpatho-Rusyn heritage, and our family is indebted to him for his tireless work in researching and writing the family history. His deep Catholic faith, profound wisdom, gracious charity, and extraordinary peace of soul made him a blessing to all who knew him. Having earned Master’s degrees in philosophy, theology, and social work, John completely dedicated his life to the Lord and to serving the Church. After committed service in VISTA and Charismatic Covenant communities in Seattle, Minneapolis, and Boston, John became Religious Education Coordinator of St. John of God Parish, serving the parish community with selfless devotion for the past 24 years. John  dearly loved his work and the people of St. John of God. We are deeply grateful to Fr. Lou Vallone, pastor; Alice Kilonsky, nurse; and the entire parish family of St. John of God for their many kindnesses to John. Family and friends will be received at William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford & Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne, on Friday, March 31, from 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Church, Braddock, on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, West Mifflin. It was John’s humble request that, in lieu of flowers, prayers and Masses be offered for him and for all the faithful departed.
