John Welks Jr., 93, formerly of Duquesne died peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 in U.P.M.C. McKeesport. Born May 17, 1921, in Clarksburg, W. VA., he was the son of the late John and Mary Cieslik Welks, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Davis Welks, two brothers, Michael Wilks and Steven Welks, three sisters, Rose Julian, Catherine Chester and Anna Welks. He is survived by a son, David J. (Karen) Welks, a daughter, Diana (Ken) Kuligowski, a granddaughter, Kara Kuligowski, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. During WWII, laying communications through the jungles of New Guinea and the Phillippines. After the war he spent 6 months in Japan assisting with the transition from war to peace. Upon his return to the U.S. he was in the painting business with his brother Steve. He retired as a pickler with 35years service from U.S. Steel Corp., Irvin Works.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-9 P.M. in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford and Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne. Funeral Services will be conducted in the Memorial Home on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. by the Very Rev. David Lesko. Entombment will follow in McKeesport-Versailles Cemetery Mausoleum.
