Lawrence August Maydak, 89, of West Mifflin, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013. He was born on June 1, 1923 in Duquesne to the late John and Elizabeth (Pirosko) Majdak. He was a World War II Veteran of the Army serving in England. He was a member of Holy Trinity R.C. Church, West Mifflin, a retired Foreman with the U.S. Steel Corporation Duquesne Works, and for over 30 years he was employed with the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home. He was an avid sports fan in all things Pittsburgh. Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann (Mali) Maydak. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Nevitt Nicklis) Maydak whom he married on March 17, 1990. He is also survived by his daughters, Marianne (Jim Lindsay) Martin of Panama City Beach, FL, Deborah (Jon) Peace of Harrison City, and Carol (John) Baron of Tolland, CT. His step-children, Robert (Alice) Nicklis of Sumter, SC, Vicky (Don) O’Toole of Latrobe, David (Kathy) Nicklis of Bedford, Lori (Dave) Kracinovsky of West Mifflin; grandchildren, Bret Martin, Erin Martin, Janel Martin, Amanda Martin, Meghann (Scott Stallbaum)Peace, Anne (Rick) Stairhime, Sean (Jackie Miller) Peace, William Baron, Sarah Baron and Jacob Baron; step-grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Nicklis, Chrissie (Matt) Begin, Kim (Roger) Nee, David Nicklis, DJ Kracinovsky and Kara Kracinovsky, and great-grandchildren, Morgan Nicklis and Leah Nee as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John, Albert, August, Anthony Maydak, Elizabeth Kovalcin and Velma Yeschenko.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 2-9 PM in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford & Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne. A Blessing Service will be offered on Thursday at 9:30 AM in Memorial Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Holy Trinity Church with Rev. Joseph Grosko officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin
