Michael George Karafa, 89, of West Mifflin, fell asleep with the Lord, Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born November 8, 1925 in Duquesne, he was the son of the late George and Susan (Tyre) Karafa and the beloved husband of the late Justine (Fatula) Karafa. Mr. Karafa was retired from the U. S. Postal Service, a member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne and proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Loving father of Judith (James) Schnitzer of Apopka, FLA., Susan Grace and Paula Karafa, both of West Mifflin, Michael (Madelynne Galatic) Karafa of Sewickly, and Mark Karafa of West Mifflin. He is also survived by a sister, Susanna M. Mehalik of Verona and three grandchildren, Stephanie Schnitzer, James Schnitzer and Michael John Karafa. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Karafa Vujnovich.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford & Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne. A blessing in the Memorial Home at 10:30 A.M. on Friday March 13, will be followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in SS. Peter & Paul Church with Rev. John Cuccaro as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, West Mifflin. Parastas services will be offered on Thursday at 3 P.M. in the Memorial Home.
