Theodore R. Barker

Theodore R. "Ted" Barker, 85, formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at the Southwestern Nursing Center. Born June 26, 1930 in Duquesne. Son of the late Albert and Janet (Smith) Barker. Mr. Barker was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish, Duquesne and a proud US Navy Veteran serving for over 25 years including the Korean Conflict. Mr. Barker was a founding member of the Duquesne Auxiliary Police, the Duquesne Little League and Pony League. He was a Scout Master of Troop #310 B.S.A. and a retire Captain of Carlow College Police Force, Kennywood Park Police officer, Ted also did research work at the V.A. Hospital in Oakland and the Arkansas Tuberculosis Research Center, and was past president of Plantation Park Association in Mercer, PA. Beloved husband of the late Nancy (Savastenok) Barker. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Greg) Evans and Bonnie (Doug) Kosko; and a son, Peter (Lisa) Barker; 12 grandchildren, Becky (Jason) Plake, Glendon (Lisa) Barron, Brad (Sunnie) Barron, Rachel (John) Barron, David (Marissa) Barker, Jenny (AJ) Smith, Caite (Tim) Kosko, Jimmy Filipovic, Greg Evans, Alex Evans, Daryl Barker and Lilly Barker; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Mae "Toots" Whitney and Janet Oyler; one brother DeWayne "Pete" Barker; and daughter-in-law, Dawn Barker. He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Barker; and four brothers, Albert, Robert, William "Punch" and James Barker.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford and Commonwealth Aves., Duquesne. A Blessing in the memorial home on Friday at 9:30 a.m. will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church, Duquesne with Rev. Thomas Lewandowski as celebrant.
